WELCOME TO CHECKMATE COVID

Hosting Chess Tournaments to Fight COVID

Checkmate COVID is an organization that hosts online chess tournaments to raise money for the fight against COVID. Tournament winners receive prize money that is donated to the COVID-relief charity of their choosing.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to Checkmate COVID either through a donation or by participating in our tournaments. We hosted 13 tournaments and raised two thousand dollars, enabling us to support COVID-19 relief efforts!

ABOUT CHECKMATE COVID

Checkmate COVID was founded by Felix Kaye, Jack Jacobsen, and James Poetzscher, high schoolers in San Francisco interested in chess. We spent a lot of time playing chess during the coronavirus pandemic and decided that we could try to use our passion for chess to support coronavirus relief....

Tournament #1 Winner

Evan: "I chose to donate to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO because it is a trusted and productive source. I want to know my money is actually used properly after making a donation, and the World Health Organization assures me of that. I know that my donation has helped someone, and that is the gift that Checkmate COVID and their sponsors have bestowed upon the players."

"The beauty of chess is it can be whatever you want it to be. It transcends language, age, race, religion, politics, gender and socioeconomic background. Whatever your circumstance, anyone can enjoy a good fight to the death over the chess board."
